Junior Leadership Program (JLP)

The JLP is a special project to help create young professionals and community leaders by introducing them to JCI ideals and values which include professional and individual development training, creating and implementing community projects, networking, global awareness, and promoting active citizenship. Candidates chosen will be given a one year membership to the Hawaii Kai Jaycees and become part of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) network. During their one year membership, they will be given opportunities for professional development. JLP candidates will also be chosen to become 3G Project Candidates and will be flown to Nagoya, Japan to participate in an international leadership program hosted by our sister chapter, JCI Nagoya.

Global Network Gathering for the Next Generation (3G) Project

3G is a project hosted by JCI Nagoya, Japan. Candidates will have the opportunity to network with other candidates from Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. From July 26th to July 30th, students will connect and learn about each other’s countries, social issues, politics, economies, and learn how different and similar each country is from each other. Students will go through team building exercises and learn how to be a global leader This is the 3rd year JCI Nagoya has run this program and the 2nd year the Hawaii Kai Jaycees are participating with the program. The Hawaii Kai Jaycees first participated during their pilot program in 2017.

Candidate Expectations

  • Be able to attend and participate in the 2019 3G Project in Nagoya, Japan, July 26th-30th
  • Attend Community Development Events
  • Attend Development Workshops and Trainings
  • Document experiences through pictures, videos, and essays

Application Requirements

  • 18-23 years of age and attending a four year college or university.
  • US Citizen with a valid and active US Passport.
  • Healthy and able to travel frequently by foot.
  • Submit a 300 word essay on leadership.
